Yes this is legal. In an "at will" employment relationship a company can terminate a worker for any reason (or no reason at all) with or without notice. This is true unless this action violates comany policy or the terms of a union agreement or employment contract. Also, the employee's treatment cannot be based on some form of legally actionble discrimination. Otherwise an employeer is free to set the conditons of the workplace much as it see fit. This inlcudes how and when to discharge an employee.
