Can your boss fire you in the state of Alabama for needing to have surgery/healing time?

My friend needs to have her tonsils taken out. Her boss told her she would not have a job when she was finished recovering from surgery. Is that allowed?

Thanks so much.

Attendance is a basic requirement of most employment. Accordingly, an employee can be terminated for their abcences regardless of the reason. That is if they do not have PTO (i.e. vacation time or sick days) or time off pursuant to the FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) to cover their time out.
