They can in exigent, or emergency circumstances, such as if someone had called 911 from your location; or if they were in pursuit of a criminal and he/she went into your location; or there were screams, gunshots, or other sounds (or threats) of violence from within your location; etc. However, it was not an emergency, they would need a warrant.
