Yes because while it may be your roommate's room, the ultimate issue is that it is under the same roof and therefore not something to which he would have a privacy interest if you are subject to checks. If your roommate knows you are under probation, and he or she is fine with home checks and has nothing to hide, then it should be fine. Talk to your probation officer and see what it will consist of because if it means tearing up his room, your roommate may reconsider the living situation.
