Can my landlord convert my1 lease renewal into a month-to-month rental agreement?

Can I stop him? He offered the lease to me on and I tendered a signed copy back with the first month’s rent the next day. Then 5 days later, he returned the lease unsigned by him but not the check. The lease had “void” written all over it and a month-to-month lease with new additional terms added. Is this legal or was my tendering of the signed lease and check effective in creating a lease that he can’t break now?

In contract terms you have what is known as an offer and an acceptance.  There are certain other factors that need to be addressed but I think that you may have a shot.  The only real issue is the fact that he did not sign the lease - which is big.  But he tendered it and I think that may be enough to enforce the terms.  Seek legal help.  Good luck.
