Can my employer make me go part-time if I take unpaid time off?

My wedding is coming up and I only have 2 days of paid vacation, however my employer approved my request 7 month ago to take off 5 days. Now that the time has come, my employer is arguing with me stating that I cannot take unpaid time off and she will only give me 1 day unpaid. She said that if I take unpaid time off they will make me part-time instead of full-time and I will lose my benefits. Are they allowed to do that? For missing time off for 1 week? What if I get sick?

Unless this action violates the terms of an employment contract or union agreement, it is legal. The fact is that a company can set the conditions of work much as it sees fit (absent some form of legally actionable discrimination).
