Can my employer force me to get a doctor’s note for any sick time usage because they believe I am misusing that time?

Work for for a city government. My employer is mandating I see a doctor for any sick time used due to the fact they believe I am using sick time to extend my weekend. There is a city directive that suggests department heads do this in these instances.

What you need to do is to consult with your HR department or employee handbook and comply with what that handbook states.  In many states you are required to obtain a doctor's note after a certain number of days absent (generally 3 consecutive).  Do you have a union and a union rep?  you may want to consult them as well.  Good luck.
