Can insurance company cancel my policy?

My brother in law has had a life
insurance policy threw his
mortgage company and, has had it
for over 5 years. He just found
out that he’s got terminal lung
cancer and they now cancelled his
policy. Is this legal?

It depends on why it as cancelled. If he missed paying premiums, it could be cancelled for that reason, regardless of his health. If it was discovered that he had lied on his application, that would again allow cancellation now. Or if it was through his mortgage company and the mortgage has paid off, that would presumably allow cancellation. There may be other reasons allowed by the terms of the policy for cancellation. So your question cannot be answered without knowing why they claim to have canceled him.
