Can I sue my employer for hiring someone who lied about their education when getting hired?

I recently found out that one of my co-workers lied about their education for my employer, I was planning on going to HR and reporting this to them. I was wondering if I can demand for them to be fired since we are being paid the same and they do not meet the requirements for the position. If they do not move forward with termination would I be able to take legal action?

No, you have no rights regarding this situation unless specifically provided for in an employment contract or union agreement. Otherwise, it is solely up to your employer has to what, if any, action to take agianst your co-worker. The fact is that most work relationships are "at will" which means that a company can set the conditions fo employment much as it sees fit (absent some form of legally actionable discrimination).
