Yes, you *could* be jailed for several months--even a small monetary value theft is still a misdemeanor, which can carry jail time with up (up to 6 months I believe). Given how small a value was involved, if you do not have priors, did not have any aggravating circumstances (no threats, no weapons, no resisting arrest, etc.) and show remorse/contrition, there is a good chance you will not do jail time. Hiring an attorney to represent you will maximize your chance of not going to jail.
