Can my employer sue me for theft if i accidentally lost money?
I mistakenly threw a bank deposit in the trash. Now they are threatening to sue me for theft. What can I do?

1) You say you threw the deposit away, but do you have proof of that? If not, they can certainly think that you stole then, bring a legal action based on that belief, and the court will decide, based on the evidence, your testimony, etc. whether you did or did not steal the money.
2) But even if you did not steal the deposit, you are liable, or responsible to pay, for it: losing someone else's, including your employer's, money, negligently or carelessly (like throwing deposits in the trash) still makes you your liable for the loss.
