Can I apply for citizenship this year?

I got my green card in August 2014.
I am a frequent overseas traveller. Plus
I stayed overseas for 8 months in 2016.
Does any of these details make me
ineligible for naturalization this year.

You have to have been a permanent resident for 5 years AND you have to have sufficient physical presence in the US of at least 1/2 that time in order to be eligible to file for naturalization.  If you have had significant absences, you might have to actually count the days you spent in the US to determine when you will be eligible to file because the USCIS will do that and if you are even a few days short of your physical presence, they will reject the application until you have satisfied that.
