That depends on what the policy itself says, and what the company said in its cancellation letter.  I'm not a Minnesota attorney, but in most states, an insurance company has to put its reasons in writing when it denies a claim or cancels a policy.  In most states, courts give the insured person the benefit of the doubt.  And insurance law is, in my opinion, one of the more difficult fields, where sometimes startling results can occur.
