Can a satellite TV company bill for services from 5 years ago?

Received a bill from for shows ordered 5 years ago. It’s a 2nd hand box so account wasn’t mine at that time. Now that I cancelled service and returned their card, I found out that the tech didn’t replace the card when I started service 2 years ago. Can it bill me for something on a box even though the account wasn’t mine? Isn’t there a statute of limitations on billing? Can I dispute the charge? How?

It is entirely possible for a television company to send an invoice to someone for services rendered that is more than five years old. The problem from the vendor's perspective is that the invoice most likely is time barred by your state's statute of limitations regardless of the fact that you did not order the service.

I would write the company a letter setting forth your position on the subject while keeping a copy for future use and need.
