If there is no applicable employment contract, union agreement or company policy that covers such a situation, then an employer my terminate an employee for any reason or no reason at all (with or without notice). That is as long as there is no form of actionable discrimination that plays a role in the employee's treatment. Absent such discrimination, this employer has violated no law.

The fact is that an employer has a great deal of discretion in setting the terms of the workplace. And this includes under what conditions that an employee may be dismissed from employment.
