Yes, unless the employee has an employment contract which in one way or another, by its terms, prevents the employer from requiring this. Otherwise, in the absence of a written employment contract, all employment is "employment at will." That means an employer may fire, discipline, change the job, duties, or title, or change the terms and conditions of employment at any time, for any reason, without notice. Therefore, the employer can require this.
