Can an employer fire someone for returning to college?

I have a full-time job that I’ve been with for 9 years and am going back to college after 15

years of being out of school. Taking classes that require clinical hours and has nothing to

do with what I currently do. My employer is not happy, so I’m questioning if they have grounds

to fire me due to returning to college?

Unless you have an employment contract or union agreement, you are an "at will" worker. This means that your company can terminate you for any reason or no reason at all, with or without notice. The fact is that an employer can set the conditions of work much as it sees fit, absent some form of legally actionable discrimination.
