Can an employee be fired for past events with a different manager?

Can an employee be fired for past events with a different manager?

Currently, my manager took on a different position with the same company. The employees he managed previously are now under new manager. Under the previous manager, employees were allowed to work home and be flexible in their in and out times. The current manager does not allow this and retroactively written up an employee for a past events related to in and out times. Can this manager fairly fire an employee for this, especially if it occurred in the past?

Unless this worker is covered by an employment contract or union agreement that states the circumstances under which they can be fired, they have no protection here. The fact is that most employment is "at will" which means that they can be terminated for any reason or no reason at all (absent some form of legally actionable discrimination, which you did not indicate).
