Under the laws of all states in this country a mechanic can charge a customer for his or her time and materials in an attempt to fix an automobile where the fix was not successful. If you have a work order form given you by the mechanic that you dated and signed before work began on your vehicle, read it carefully.
Most likely there will be language within it stating terms and conditions concerning the mechanic's right to compensation from the customer.
