Can an employer fire 2 employees just because they called out on the same day?

My co-worker and I have called in twice on the same day once my car was out of commission so we car pulled and his car broke down. The second time was yesterday I had pulled a muscle in my back the night before and my co-worker had called in sick today we were threatened if we called in on the same day again we were terminated. Can he do that also all day he has harassed us this morning he entered the break room

Unless your treatment violates the terms of an employment contract or union agreement, it is legal (although quite unprofessional). The fact is that a company can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit (absent some form of legally actionable discrimination)..
