Divorce is never an easy process, especially with kids involved. If there is any way you and your spouse can work things out, try to get some counseling and give it a shot. If there is no way, but you believe you and your spouse see eye to eye enough to go to a mediator, that would be the least expensive way to handle the divorce. There are private mediators who are attorneys and will help both of you settle everything from custody and visitation to support and division of property. If that won't work in your case, you will each need your own attorney and that can be expensive. depending on the issues that need to be worked out and whether or not litigation is necessary. It could cost anywhere from $500 to $30,000. I know that's a wide range, but there are so many possible problems that divorces may pose, including major disputes over custody and rights to property, that it is difficult to narrow the range for you.
