Are we responsible to help pay for funeral costs?

My mother-in-law paased away yesterday. We did not sign any documents but my wife’s family is trying to make us help pay funeral costs. Are we legally responsible to help cover funeral costs?

No, you are not responsible for paying for a deceased family member's funeral. There is no law obligating you to do so, at least so long as you did not sign or otherwise agree to be so liable.
