If I’m applying for a teaching position, how do I answer criminal history question?

I am applying for a teaching job and it asks, “Have you ever been convicted of any offense other than a minor traffic violation?” I got an alcohol intoxication citation and pled guilty 2 years ago. What should I put here? Also, if I have to check yes, what should I put where it says to explain?

If you want the job as a teacher, I suggest that you answer the question truthfully, explain what happened, the result and what you learned from the unfortunate error in judgment on your behalf and hope for the best.

The reason is that such will pop up on the presumed back gound check that will be done on you and if you do not mention the prior conviction, your chances of getting the position are all the more lessened.
