I gave one day verbal notice that I’m resigning from my position and next day is first day of school. I am under at-will agreement.

No, the definition of "at-will" employment is that either employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, without any notice whatsoever. You even could have simply told your boss that you're quitting and walked out on the spot, if you had wished.
