What canI do if a company improperly installed a sewer line 8 years ago?

I am having sewer issues with a home I just purchased 2 months ago. After contacting the city clerk, I have found the company who improperly installed a sewer line in my front yard 8 years ago. Is there any action that can be taken? My basement is backing up with water and sewage and causing home and health risks.

Good question. I suggest that you consult a real estate attorney about your situation in that any statute of limitations as to the company that installed the sewer line improperly may have run.

However, there are longer statutes of limitations for works of improvement (beyond 4 years) in some states and perhaps you may have a claim for a nuisance as to the company that installed the sewer line and possibly the governmental entity that is in charge of the line that you are writing about.

Good luck.
