Why would our landlord ask to be listed as insured on our renters policy? We had to get a basic policy to rent through this company, and we did. Now the Property Manager is saying that we need to revise the policy and name them as an insured party. This doesn't make much sense to us and actually sounds fishy. Is this legal? What is the reasoning?

By requiring a basic policy for you, the renter, the property manager knows that you have insurance coverage if you cause damage to the unit.  Many property managers also asked to be added as an additional insured on policies.  They are not asking to be insured for your personal property, but rather for the liability portion of your policy.  That way, if someone is injured in your apartment, or caused by your negligence, the property manager is protected if the injured party sues them as well as you.

You should talk to your insurance agent.  They should be familiar with this type of additional insured request and should be able to calm your fears about adding the property manager.
