The lead Wausau company, Employers Insurance Company of Wausau was formed in 1911 to provide workers’ compensation coverage which was then a newly approved Wisconsin benefit for workers. In 2002 a new corporate structure was put in place that made Employers Insurance Company of Wausau and 3 other companies subsidiaries of Liberty Mutual Group.
