Company Overview:
Company History: Founded 1874, Sun Life went public in 2000. The company has grown by the strategic acquisition of financial assets, the most recent being the group benefits business of Genworth Financial in January of 2007.
Principle Sales Methods: Career agents (through Sun affiliate Clarica.)
Life Annuity Business: In the U.S., Sun Life sells Term, Whole, Universal and Variable Universal Life insurance, plus Variable, Fixed and Equity-Indexed annuities to individuals.
Special Business: In the U.S., Sun Life sells Group Life, Disability, Medical Stop-Loss and Dental plans to businesses.
The company is disloyal and dishonest to their clients. As is, they try to do their best to deny the claims instead of paying it citing different numbers of reasons that do not even make sense. They’ve continually misplace or loose my claims and cant make up their minds if they’re paying the same medications last month, this month and the month after. They are inconsistent and very cumbersome. Not worth it.

They have no honesty in them what so ever. They don’t disclose any of their restrictions until you make a claim or after the fact that you need to use your coverage. Your just padding the pockets of those who are in charge and who makes up the rules, (as they go along). No integrity what so ever,.,.,..,!

I was certified disabled by 2 different drs. Sun Life made me go to THEIR psychologist who said I was faking my pain. Their physiotherapist said I was alright to go back to work though lifting 10 lbs made me in alot of pain and my job was very physical. I sued them and I won, but they kept 33% because of a payout. I recieved less than $50,000 to last me the rest of my life and I was only 47 when I recieved it. I had paid in for over 10 yrs. Their long term disability only lasted 1 year.

Took 8 weeks from the time of my accident to receive pay. When switching to Long term form short term there was a lapse of 8 weeks of pay and I am still waiting. Does not return phone calls and rude customer service.

Disability. Two appeals and 24 months…24 months of treatment…. All my doctors agree that I am disabled.

On a disability claim they keep changing how and why they request medical records from my doctor. They keep requesting I fill out and resend the same forms over and over. I have been off work for four months and am being treated by two doctors. SunLife will still not approve my claim.

If you don’t want to get burned expect that the money you receive from a claim will be at least 30% less than your plan tells you.

The worst Customer service and claim managers lie withhold information won’t return calls take months to pay. Supervisors are never available and don’t return calls either.

Its been 5 weeks they still haven’t make a decision on my disability claim

They stall on settling a claim, they do not return phone calls, and they lie about checks being in the mail.

This is by far the worst company I have ever interacted with in any industry, for anything. They are currently charging me for vision insurance but do not have me in the system. Because they do not have me in the system, they say they can’t be charging me. My paychecks say otherwise. The customer service is slow, rude, and completely unknowledgeable. They are inexpensive because in this case, you really do get what you pay for. The hours of time you spend trying to fix their mistakes is worth so much more than the money you save. If you care about yourself, choose ANY other company.
