Homeowner insurance policies are very restrictive when a dog bite is involved. Insurance companies say they pay more in claims for dog bites than any other claim, since the settlements and medical costs can skyrocket. If your insurance company has non-renewed you because of a dog bite you will find it difficult to find a replacement policy. The fact that the dog is not vicious is irrelevant since the dog has shown it can be aggressive and bites. You may have to get rid of the dog in order to find new insurance. If you get rid of the dog, talk to your current insurance company, they may be willing to take you back if the dog is gone.If you still have the dog you may have to find a specialty policy and it will include an exclusion for dog bite claims. You should talk to an independent agent or broker as they have access to specialty companies that can write a policy with special exclusions or endorsements.
