Company History: The Gerber Life Insurance Company was founded in 1967. The company started with initial resources of $4,970,250 and a common capital stock of $1 million. As of 1994 its ultimate parent company was the Sandoz Corporation. In 1996 Sandoz Corporation and Ciba-Geigy merged to create the second largest pharmaceutical company on the planet, the Novartis Corporation. The Novartis Corporation ultimately became the parent of the Gerber Products company. In 2007 Nestle purchased all the shares of stock of the Company from Novartis. Today, Gerber Life Insurance Company is a financially separate affiliate of Gerber Products and a subsidiary of the Nestle Group.
Principle Sales Methods: Direct marketing.
Life Annuity Business: Gerber Life sells Individual Whole, Term, Burial Expense and AD&D insurance for adults, plus child and young adult policies. The company currently has over $40 billion of life insurance in force with over 3 million customers. Gerber Life offers a guaranteed life insurance plan which you cannot be turned down if you are between 50 and 80 years old. In 2009 Gerber life was named one of the Top 50 Performing Life and Health Companies in the US by the Ward Group.
Special Business: Gerber Life sells Child (to age 12) and Young Adult Whole Life insurance policies.
I got the policy for my kids because it seemed like a good value, but before I recieved my policy I happened to be checking on insurance for myself and found that I could get them a policy twice as large for a lower premium elsewhere. Don’t let the low sounding premium fool you….. shop arround!

My mother has a Medicare Supplement with this company, and we have never had any problems with claims or customer service. Definitely would recommend them to anyone.

Unless you are able to repay ALL of a cash loan against any Gerber policy, DO NOT BORROW AGAINST IT……the interest rate is so high that it will just eat away any and all cash value you have left. And when this happens, they cancell your policy….even if you are still making you monthly premiums. I found this out the hard way.

This company has been the worse and AWFUL regarding paying a claim. Lack of concern or professionalism and all processing or questions or done via mail which only adds to the time that it takes to process a claim. It takes months to process a death claim as where others take a week I would never ever recommend this company to anyone for anything. It has been a very horrible experience after paying regular premiums over 5yrs.

I have had 4 policies on my grandkids for over 8 years. This past Dec 2012 the youngest 19 months unexpectedly passed away. Gerber Life has been so very hard to deal with from rude customer service claims reps to them requesting information that we do not have and can not get because there is none to get It has now been almost 6 months and they still have not paid this claim on my granddaughter. I will be cancelling my other 3 policies with this company and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and Insurnce Commissioner regarding this company that appears to be "not what they say they are". I have paid my premiums for 8 years and never been late but it has been 6 months and they still are telling me they "need more information". They are just putting me off and trying to not pay this claim. I have recommended them to many but I will never recommend them again and I will take my business to a more reputable company that I will research before I take out a policy this time. I DO NOT recommend Gerber Life to anyone

have my medicare supplement with this co. my yr is up oct 12012. they raised my premium from 120.00 to 170.00 only way i could take the ins. was to let them take it out of my account every month. i called today sept 27 2012 to cancel was told it was too late to cancel that the 170.00 would still be taken out of my account on the first of oct. be wear of this co. read other surveys before you sign.

gerber life said that a small portion of mypayments go to the face value of my policy but they dont tell me where the rest of mymoney goes

We’re a small funeral home in New England. About a month ago we buried a client whose grandmother had purchased a life policy for from Gerber. Since we thought the firm reputable we not only accepted the assignment but spent OUR OWN MONEY in order to bury the young boy. Now we’ve been waiting to get our claims check and it seems that every other day they "need something else" in order to process the claim. Folks should take heed Getting claims paid by Gerber takes forever. Funeral Directors Don’t accept assignment of beneficiary…you’ll never get paid anyway Tell families you know NOT TO BUY Gerber

I cancelled my insurance with Gerber Life 7 mos ago after a early premium withdrawal by them that resulted in me paying fees at my bank. I have spent 7 mos 5 hrs on the phone and have yet to receive the refund that is due me on my policy. They originally told me they had mailed the check which I never received. For the past six months I have been trying to get the form that I need to sign saying I never received the check. When I finally threw a fit and threatened them with going to the better business bureauetc I had the form within 10 min but true to form for this company-the fax they gave me to return the form would not work. I am so glad that I cancelled this policy and did not leave this mess for my family to try to collect should something had happened to me. DO NOT BUY INS FROM THIS COMPANY. ANYONE WHO THINKS IT IS A GOOD COMPANY HAS NOT HAD TO TRY TO PROCESS A CLAIM OR MONEY OWED THEM

I forgot to pay my premium and had to do a reinstatement. Started the odyssey in February and it is late august and still nothing. They keep requesting info and expecting me to pay but nothing happens… They assure me that I will get my premiums back from February if they do not reinstate but I am really skeptical. I am starting to really worry that my one mistake will cost me all. Shameless

Long waits to get someone on the phone. always over 10 minutes. last time it was 18 min. very unsatisfied with the so called customer service and non-resolution tactics

Plain Simple, They SUCK Lack of Customer Service,People Skills.Dull Rude. Aren’t Helpful At All. Aren’t Very Strict When it Comes To Rules Regulations Within The Company itself.
