Insurance Question from Clayton, OH

Asked on 08/03/2016

do I have the right to request another insurance company to get estimates if I feel there adjuster is to high? My daughter got in an accident she was at fault. The other party turned the claim into his insurance they sent out and adjuster and cut him a check for what the adjuster said without getting any estimates. We have asked for pictures and Estimates right away and have still never received. the party stated the only problem was a sagging bumper. We feel $1500 to fix a sagging bumper was a lot. We were trying not to turn into our insurance since my daughter is a teen. Do we have a right to request estimates to verify cost?

If your daughter caused an accident and damaged the other person’s car, they have the right to go through their insurance company to pay for the repairs. While a sagging bumper does not seem like an expensive repair, if the clips are broken that hold the bumper, then the entire bumper needs to be replaced including the clips holding it on. This can run over $1000.You can ask the insurance company again for a copy of their estimate and they should respond. If nothing received call asking for a supervisor to review the claim. Many adjusters will do their own estimates without getting estimates from a repair shop, so that is not unusual. If, during the accident, there was someone in the car, it would be better to let your insurance company handle the claim. They can verify the damage and cost plus the other driver could come along later and claim an injury. If you have already paid for the car repairs then your insurance company could decline to defend you for the claimed injuries.
