If you had a claim on your homeowner policy and the insurance company made a payment it should have been based on estimates they received from their adjuster or a contractor. If you were able to repair the property at a lower cost, and the work was complete and acceptable to the insurance company, I don’t believe they should be able to get a refund. It would seem odd that they even knew what you paid to make the repairs, unless you volunteered that information. If the work that was done to your damaged property was different from the original estimate by the adjuster or contractor, and that resulted in the overpayment, then the insurance company may have a cause to request the refund. You should discuss the issue with your agent or the insurance company to see why they feel the should be able to get the funds back. There may just be a misunderstanding that can be worked out.
