Insurance Question from NULL, NULL

Asked on 10/12/2010

Can I get my car insurance cost reduced while on long term disability. I am capable of driving. I started receiving long term disability a year ago and I hope with continued therapy it will be temporary.

Answer given on October 15, 2010

Car insurance rates are based on many factors.  These are generally the driving record, number of miles driven each year, the age and/or experience of the driver and the limits of insurance.  Disability does not usually have any effect on the rates.

Having said that, you should speak with your insurance agent.  Some states have special rates for low income drivers, and you may qualify for the lower rates.  Long term disability does not work against you for insurance either, unless your ability to drive is affected.  Again, talk to your insurance agent about the entire situation.  They may be able to offer a solution or set up a payment plan to assist you in paying your insurance premiums.
