Insurance Question from Irmo, SC

Asked on 07/21/2018

Accident coverage question I had an accident where it was the other person‘s fault. Will their insurance cover a car rental for me?

Answer given on July 29, 2018

If you had an auto accident and the other driver was at fault, his insurance company should provide you with a rental car.  The length of time they will provide the car can vary.  If your car is undriveable, they should provide a rental at the onset of the accident, provided that they have accepted responsibility.  It the car is driveable, they will allow for a rental car while the car is being repaired.  Unless you have a preferred repair shop, you may want to use their recommended repair facility as they will be more receptive to the time for the repairs to take.

If your car is determined to be a total loss, the other insurance company will only provide a rental car from the time they approved the rental car up until the date the check has been issued for the actual cash value of your car.  They most likely will not go beyond that, even though you may not have a replacement car yet.
