Can my employer suspend me without a reason?

The only thing I was told, was that the district manager said I had to be suspended while she waits to hear from “companies”. My general manager couldn’t even tell me what kind of companies when she suspended me. I’ve never done anything wrong, and all the employees love me, the general manager was sad to make me have to leave. My only guess would be that I’m a felon but they’ve known that since the day they hired me almost a year ago.

Unfortunately, if you do not have an employment contract which limits the grounds for suspension or provides for a procedure which must be followed for any discipline, then your company may suspend you at any time, for any reason, without notice or explanation--for  that matter, the company could terminate your employment, if you lack a contract, at any time, for any reason, so long as it is not discriminating against you on a protected basis, such as terminating or suspending you because of your race, religion, sex, disability, or age over 40.
